BBC Reports The Hatred Of The Two Teams On Derby

A recent post on BBC report was seen describing the recent meeting of Olymapcos and Panathianaikos as flares, petrol bombs, firecrackers and fights day. They termed the beginning of the derby as “Derby of Hatred” as the day started with the fans attempting to torch coaches of their rival teams.

Neil Johnston, the BBC writer says that a game in March between Olymapcos and Panathianaikos, the coach of Panathianaikos, Yiannis Anastasiou crouched down to the touchline when an object that was thrown from the stands hit him. The March 2007 match had a fatal ending because of the unending clash between the two teams.

The article so written by Neil Johnston gives a detailed story of the clash between the two teams and the instances of violence inside and outside the stadiums. He wrote the British goalie of Panathianaikos’s comment after he was transferred for the summer to the club. Luke Steele said that his debut was like a cup tie away for Olympiacos. The match was very hostile and there were many flares. He flinched for the first time when a firecracker landed very close to him but then again one who plays on the team gets used to this as it is more like a religion to the fans and not just football.

Panos Polyzoides, the Greek journalist says that whether it is football, volleyball, basketball or water polo, the hatred between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos is very clear. He also mentioned the beating of a football fan that ended up being fatal in the Third Division game having 200 spectators.

The fans of Piraeus club expect a win as big as the win of Olympiacos over the Italians on Wednesday. After the victory at the Champions League, the fans all over the Karaiskakis stadium put forward their demand to destroy the Greens on field. They even want the revenge for the loss of Panathinaikos on home grounds.

Usmanov Believes Arsenal Is In A Good Spot

One of the Arsenal’s shareholders, Alisher Usmanov, believes that the composition of the first team squad of the club is very good at the moment and there is no reason why the Gunners can’t become the Premier League Champions again.

Arsenal has bought some fantastic players this summer and they are indeed looking very strong ahead of the Premier League. They are confident too having ended their trophy drought of almost a decade last season.

They won the FA Cup in the 2013-14 Season defeating Hull City in the final. It was a memorable win for them as they had gone down by 0-2 in that match and that too in the first half itself.

According to Usmanov, Arsenal would never have suffered the trophy drought if the board had been a little smarter strategy wise.

Talking to the reporters yesterday, the Russian billionaire said, “Because of the building of the new stadium, the club was under debt and thus, the world class players weren’t being bought. Also, a lot of players were being sold and the team was getting weakened with every passing season. That was the main reason why we couldn’t win titles. But, we could have avoided getting into such sort of situation if we had been smarter and had gone for a different option rather than the debt one.”

“However, we have got through that period now and we are financially quite stable at this point of time.”

“This is the start of a fresh era for us. Everything seems to be in order and I am sure we are going to achieve glory in near future.”

Usmanov has a stake of 30% in Arsenal. Only Stan Kroenke, the American businessman, has a higher stake than him in the club.

The relationship between Usmanov and Kroenke is not good at all. They have not been speaking to each other for a long time.

Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzarri has criticised his striker Mauro Icardi after the forward decided to celebrate in an exuberant manner against Sampdoria after scoring the first goal against the club. The encounter was more than just a football match for Inter forward Mauro Icardi and Sampdoria counterpart Maxi Lopez. It has been revealed in the last few weeks that Icardi has been involved in an affair with Lopez’ former wife. The love triangle appears to have spoiled a great relationship and friendship between Lopez and Icardi.

The duo were teammates at Sampdoria before Icardi moved to Inter recently. Icardi tried to shake hands with Lopez before the match, but this offer was rejected by the Sampdoria striker. Icardi then went on to create a big impression by scoring two goals – with one being from the penalty spot. His celebration after scoring the first goal appeared to kindle the emotions of Sampdoria fans, as he put his hands began his fears claiming that he could not hear the opposition. The referee booked him with a yellow card, but he continued his impressive form by scoring the second half the spot.

Meanwhile, the day went from bad to worse for Lopez and Sampdoria, as he missed the penalty that would have given them a crucial goal.

“Up until his goal, he had conducted himself perfectly. All he then had to do was go back to the centre of the field and not make that gesture, even if it didn’t seem to be anything scandalous. He did his job and showed great personality, considering the atmosphere which had been created around him. If he carries on like this, and we manage to get rid of all the superfluous things about him, then he’s going to become a great player,” said Mazzarri after the match.

Chelsea travelled to the home turf of Galatasaray at the Telekom Arena in Istanbul and despite enjoying a fairly impressive season in the Premier League they had to settle with a 1-1 draw as they went against the Turkish team of Roberto Mancini.

It was the 1st leg of the Champions League, with both teams having much lying on this match as positive result would give them a huge advantage for the return match which will be played on March 18.

Jose Mourinho’s men enjoyed a better 1st half as they dominated the opening 45 minutes with more shots on goal and simply just played far more impressively than the 2nd half of the match when Galatasaray took center stage and threatened Chelsea’s goalkeeper Petr Cech.

A close range shot from Fernando Torres gave Chelsea the lead after only 9 minutes had passed and the Premier League club tried to extend the lead through Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle and Willian as they were the players that pushed the team forward but were unable on scoring as the 1st half came to a conclusion.

Both teams re-entered the pitch in order to play the remaining 45 minutes of the match this time around it was Galatasaray that looked like the better team and it didn’t take long for Roberto Mancini’s men to find the equalizer as the 28 years old defender Aurelien Chedjou found the back of the net and turned the score 1-1.

Throughout the remainder of the match it was Galatasaray the team that pressured more but was unlucky on not being able to score another goal. According to the head coach of Galatasaray, Roberto Mancini he stated that his team deserved to win.

‘’In the second half we probably deserved to score another goal. We gained a lot of confidence from the second half, but we had too much respect for Chelsea. Maybe we were too deep in the first half, we played with fear but I’m happy. One-one is a good result, we have another game.” Mancini stated.
